In 2020, Salt Lake County replaced one of its aging libraries with a newly constructed state-of-the-art building in Kearns, Utah, an economically distressed community in Salt Lake County. The new 35,000 square foot building is triple the size of the old library and provides modern, efficient space, resulting in the expansion of the library’s services: early learning programs, Spanish-speaking services, business and entrepreneurial support, and digitally inclusive communities. The building achieves LEED Gold Certification, with a solar array on the roof and a ground source heat pump system below the parking and a pedestrian plaza.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The larger facility includes expanded meeting space, free co-working space, a maker space with a technology classroom, and a business center. A commercial kitchen and dedicated cafe space allow for the expansion of the Kids Cafe program, which provides healthy after-school meals to low-income children in conjunction with education and enrichment programming.<\/p>\n
